Before treatment
Treatment:
- Spine leather lifted at every panel towards upper joint, and at panels 1, 2 and 5 towards lower joint, where it was split. Board leather lifted at these locations.
- Extended tabs of Japanese Kozo paper pasted to spine where leather lifted, making sure to reincorporate spinefold of loose upper endpaper.
- Extended tabs of aerocotton pasted over Japanese Kozo paper tabs.
- Japanese Kozo paper and aerocotton tabs pasted beneath board leather to reinforce lower board attachment and re-attach upper board.
- Tabs of toned Kozo paper pasted over aerocotton repairs.
- Leather re-adhered on top of repairs with wheat starch paste.
