Visiting Lincoln

At Lincoln College, we welcome visitors all year round. The College is open to the public daily, from 2pm to 5pm, and we do not charge an admission fee. Occasionally the College is closed to the public due to large events, so you may wish to call the Porters’ Lodge on 01865 27800 or send them an email to confirm that the College is open on the day of your visit. The College also closes for a two week period over Christmas.

Unfortunately, due to the size of the College, we are not able to admit large tour groups. If you arrive in a large group, the Porters may ask you to split into smaller groups (max. 6 people).

The entrance to the College can be found on Turl Street (between Broad Street and High Street).

To avoid disturbing our students and Fellows, we request that visitors keep noise to a minimum and remember that staircases are private. The Grove may only be visited by current members of the College and by alumni, unless you are attending an event in the Berrow Foundation Building.

All services in the Chapel, including Evensong, are open to the public. Click here to find out more.

Prospective students

If you are a prospective student interested in attending Lincoln College, please do come and have a look round. We are open daily from 2pm to 5pm. If you would like a full tour of the College, please contact the Admissions Office to see if someone is available to show you round (Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm).

You can also join us at our next Open Day! Click here to find out more.

Lincoln alumni are welcome back at any time. Please inform the Lodge that you are an Old Member on arrival. If you would like to see the Library or have a full tour of the College, please contact the Development Office in advance.

Wesley groups

We are sometimes asked whether groups can visit the College to see sites associated with John Wesley. It is not possible for us to do this without advance notice, so you must contact the Development Office to arrange your visit. Organised tour groups are subject to a £50 entrance fee. Please note: we are only able to accept small groups (max. 15 people) and all visits must take place outside of term time.

Lincoln College provides a good degree of accessibility for visitors. The main entrance and the Porters' Lodge have level thresholds, and there are ramps between the quads on the main site. The Hall has a reasonably level entrance, as does the ante-chapel. The main Chapel has one step, and can be accessed via a portable ramp; please speak to the Porter on duty. The Wesley Room is on a first floor, and can be reached via a single flight of steep stairs with hand rails on both sides. The Oakeshott Room and Langford Room where a number of external events are held, can be accessed by a lift.

Prospective students can find more information here.

How to get here

By train

There are regular services to Oxford station from London, the Midlands, the North West, and the South coast. National Rail Enquiries can help you plan your journey. If arriving by train, the College is a 15 minute walk from the station. The 280 bus leaves from the station every 15 minutes and stops on the High Street, next to Turl Street.

By coach

Coach services run to Oxford from many parts of the UK. The city's coach station is located in Gloucester Green, a 7-8 minute walk from the College. The Oxford Tube coach service connects Oxford and London, and runs every 10-15 mins during the day. For visitors from overseas, the Airline bus service offers frequent coach services from London Heathrow and London Gatwick airports. For other coach services, please check the National Express website.

By car

Oxford lies just to the west of the M40 motorway, which connects London with the Midlands and North of England. The A34 also connects Oxford with the South of England, and provides a route to the M4 and the West.

There is no parking at the College and parking in the city centre can be difficult. The nearest public car parks are Gloucester Green and the Westgate. There is limited on-street parking available in the city centre, the nearest of which can be found on Broad Street. If travelling by car we recommend you use one of Oxford’s Park & Ride services, conveniently located on the outskirts of the city.

Information about parking for Blue Badge holders can be found here.

The College is currently closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
