Two Lincolnites Receive Kennedy Scholarships

20 Jul 2023

Congratulations to Robert McDonald (DPhil in Mathematics) and alumna Julia Pamilih (PPE 2017) for being awarded Kennedy Scholarships to Harvard University. In fact, Lincolnites received two out of the seven UK-wide scholarships this year!

Rob will use his scholarship at Harvard as a Visiting Fellow in Applied Mathematics - within the Computational Science and Engineering laboratory - to continue researching multi-scale mathematical modelling.

Julia will use her scholarship to pursue a Master's in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School. She plans to engage more deeply with US policymaking on China and its wider national security strategy, and also increase her understanding of the political economy of Indonesia and South East Asia.

Rob said, "I first saw the advertisement for a funded year at Harvard pinned up in the Lincoln lodge during the first week of my DPhil - back in October 2021! I am very grateful to the college for this, and a great many other opportunities over my time here that have helped me achieve this award.”

Julia said, "I'm really looking forward to continuing my studies and taking advantage of the opportunities at Harvard, and I'm very grateful for the Lincoln tutors who helped me along the way."

The Kennedy Scholarships provide funding for UK students to pursue graduate study at Harvard and MIT. The Scholarships form part of the UK’s official memorial to US President John F. Kennedy, and the Kennedy Trust seeks to promote ideals of intellectual endeavour, leadership, and public service through the Scholars they support. More than 570 Scholarships have been awarded since the Trust’s founding in 1964. The Kennedy Scholarship competition for 2024-2025 will open in early August.
