Communications Assistant (graduate student position)

Contract type: Temporary, part-time (0.2 FTE), with an expected commitment through the long summer vacation. Hours are flexible. Please note that this is not a remote post since the postholder will need to be local to fulfill the duties of the role.

Salary Scale: £14.73 hourly including holiday pay

The Role

It’s an exciting time to join the Development Team as we are in the campaign phase leading up to the 600th Anniversary in 2027. We’re seeking a fixed-term Communications Assistant to support the Communications Manager to deliver engaging and effective digital content. This is a fantastic opportunity for a current graduate student looking to contribute to the College’s social media strategy and gain hands-on experience in communications, social media and digital content creation. The role would suit someone seeking a flexible, part-time post in a friendly department who can commit to the full length of the contract.

Duties

  • Social media campaigns – Assist in creating and managing social media campaigns across various College platforms, with a particular focus on engaging current and prospective students.
  • Instagram takeovers – Oversee and support student Instagram takeovers, ensuring high-quality and engaging content.
  • Content creation – Develop visually compelling and informative graphics, photos and videos to enhance the College’s online presence.
  • Planning and strategy – Work proactively to plan and schedule content, ensuring alignment with the College’s communications objectives.
  • Confidentiality and discretion – Handle sensitive or confidential information with professionalism and tact.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned to support the Department’s priorities.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Attention to detail – Ability to produce high-quality, error-free content in line with the College’s branding.
  • Initiative and independence – A proactive approach to tasks and the ability to work independently.
  • Discretion and professionalism – Comfortable handling sensitive or confidential information with tact.
  • Video and photo editing – Experience with video and graphics creation, and photo manipulation.
  • Social media expertise – Experience creating engaging social media content either for your own channels or in a professional context
  • Forward Planning – Strong organisational skills and ability to plan ahead.
