We're delighted to announce that Professor Michael Willis, our Tutorial Fellow in Chemistry, has been named a recipient of a 2026 distinguished Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award from the American Chemical Society.
The Arthur C. Cope Scholar Awards, established in 1984, are among the most prestigious recognitions in organic chemistry. They were created to honour and encourage outstanding achievement and innovation in the field. Michael’s award is for his research, “For the development of new reagents, processes, and catalysts that have opened up the use of sulfur dioxide in synthetic chemistry".
Michael said, “I’m very proud to receive the Cope Scholar award from the ACS, as it recognises all of the fantastic contributions from the students and postdocs that I have been lucky enough to work with.”
