Forever Lincoln
Support Sustainability at Lincoln
At Lincoln College, we understand the importance of creating a greener and more sustainable world. We are committed to ensuring that Lincoln plays its part in preventing and reducing the harmful effects of climate change and biodiversity loss.
Improving Biodiversity
We are committed to improving and increasing biodiversity in the College gardens. Our main site on Turl Street is home to a wide range of fauna and flora, and a wild flower garden has been established in the garden of the Lincoln Library. In order to create and enhance wildlife habitats, we have also created a pond in the Fellow’s Garden and have started to leave log piles, seed heads and leaf litter around College for birds and insects. Our gardening team use environmentally-friendly products and methods, including peat free compost and the use of battery-operated machines.
Improving our Buildings
When embarking upon building projects, energy efficiency and sustainability are always at the forefront of our minds. Our recent redevelopment of the Turl Street Mitre is an excellent example of this, with added insulation, increased glazing on windows, the introduction of water restrictors, and motion sensitive lighting in shared areas. In the summer of 2024, we have also installed solar panels on the Museum Road houses as part of a necessary roof refurbishment, which will also see improved insulation installed.

Environment and Investment
The College integrates environmental, social, and governance issues into its investment decision-making. We believe that well-run companies which promote sustainable, environmental, social, and governance policies will ultimately deliver above average long-term returns to their investors. As of November 2023, less than 0.2% of the College’s endowment investments had exposure to fossil fuels.

Emissions and Energy Use
Lincoln College is dedicated to measuring and reducing our carbon emissions across our sites. We can split our carbon emissions into three main categories: Scopes 1, 2 and 3. We are currently working to eliminate all three scopes through a number of means, including installing 86 solar panels on our off-site accommodation buildings, on Museum Road. We are dedicated to gathering a greater understanding of our carbon emissions and are working on building projects to reduce our emissions across our sites.
