Sustainability and Buildings

When embarking upon building projects, energy efficiency and sustainability are always at the forefront of our minds. Our recent redevelopment of the Turl Street Mitre is an excellent example of this, with added insulation, increased glazing on windows, the introduction of water restrictors in the toilets and showers, and motion sensitive lighting in shared areas.

In addition, we’ve now installed smart radiator valves (‘EcoSync’) to the radiators in Staircase 15 and Lincoln House, parts of the Mitre as well as our Main Site. This will not only prevent rooms from being heated when they’re unoccupied, but also enable occupants to turn down the heat when they’re not in their rooms. We’re also investigating the feasibility of degasification across our sites over the coming years, with improvements at the main site planned in 2025.

In the summer of 2024, we have also installed solar panels on the Museum Road houses as part of a necessary roof refurbishment, which will also see improved insulation installed.
